About us

Welcome to the Kent Woodcarvers site. The Kent Woodcarvers group was formed from two regions of the British Woodcarvers Association (BWA) – namely the Wormshill and Hamlett Wood regions which both existed within Kent.

We have collected a number of resources together on the site that will hopefully be of interests to you. If you are interested in the group then please feel free to contact us, or come along to one of our workshops.

Membership

Membership is £10 a year which covers attendance at both venues. When we first meet you will be given a Membership form to complete together with a copy of our Constitution and Risk Assessments for your information. Young people under the age of 16 are welcome. Membership and attendance is free for under 16’s but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is a full paid up member.

Individual sessions at both venues are £8 pay as you go but block prepayments are at a discounted rate.

Tea and coffee are available at both Wormshill and Hamlet Wood but please bring your own lunch and a piece of carpet to protect the floor.

Wormshill Workshops

The 11 annual monthly sessions can be pre-paid as a block costing £66.

A display table is always available and members are invited to bring their latest creation (even old ones we haven’t seen recently).

This workshop is held monthly on a Sunday – usually the third Sunday of the month but please check our website. We are “open” from 10a.m. to 4.30p.m.

Shows for 2024:

Commissions

We are often approached by people and organisations looking to commission a woodcarving. Whilst most of our members carve purely for personal pleasure and produce carvings for themselves, family or friends, one of our carvers frequently undertakes commissions. Details can be found at https://www.woodwarlock.co.uk

Timber

At many of the meetings we are able to provide timber, and we will try to arrange for some on a particular date by request. All pieces should be priced. We have Tulip, Mahogany, Plane, Walnut, and some other odd pieces.

Tools and Equipment

There is a tool box at Hamlet Wood with gouges and clamps for use during meetings together with a small store of wood. We have another set of tools which can be brought to Wormshill. We are always open to suggestions for additional tools

The club toolbox, for anyone to use, has 2 sets of gouges, 2 large clamps and some ‘fine’ abrasive. We are always open for suggestions for additional tools.

There is also a grinder and water bath at Hamlet Wood and we have a sharpening machine that is brought to Wormshill.

The sharpening machine can be borrowed between meetings. The sanding machine can be brought to a meeting on request. The club also has an Arbortec cutter, with angle grinder; also a flexible drive carving tool similar to a Foredom.

Books and Videos

We have an extensive library of books stored at Hamlet Wood and all of these can be borrowed using a simple library system. Any particular books can be brought to Wormshill on request.
